Kybella is made of synthetic deoxycholic acid, so it’s a copy of a substance that occurs naturally in the body. This acid essentially liquifies fats that you eat, which helps you absorb them in your intestines and, eventually, eliminate them from your body.
Because deoxycholic acid is so effective at diminishing fat, it’s a highly efficient way to target the fat in certain fat cells: those under the chin and in the jaw area, collectively called the submental area.
Through a series of injections in the double chin area, Kybella destroys the fat cell membranes, causing them to break open. The liquified fat can then move on through your digestive system for elimination.
